The History of Tinnis Castle forms part of the archaeological excavation publication, ARO56: Unearthing Ancient Tweeddale: Tinnis Castle, Thirlestane Barrows and Merlin’s Grave. A fuller version of the History of Tinnis and Drumelzier barony, containing a full analysis of the sources, and more detailed material on Drumelzier’s 14th century farmers and named residents, can be accessed below.
Unpublished sixteenth century records of the Tweedie and Fleming rivalry, raiding and reiving, are discussed here, and various alternative interpretations are expanded upon.
