‘Portrait of an Archaeology Volunteer’
It was remarked upon that one of the (many) interesting things about coming on this archaeology dig is meeting all the different people! You get to meet people from all walks of life, and what a rich and diverse range of folk are here! Father and son from Perth, school stayers and leavers (some of whom got their exam results up the hill!) and a retired geo-physicist to name a few.
Cherry
Cherry {above] lives in Crawford and became an instant friend when she helped wash the dishes with husband Pete on Saturday!
Cherry is a mixed media artist and homeopath. She has been interested in archaeology since she was a child, but her mother put her off, “You’ll never make any money being an archaeologist!”…
So, Cherry studied art at Aberystwyth School of Art! She now divides her time between her mixed media art work and her homeopathy practice. Cherry’s love is for landscape, combining her interest in the land with her art. She looks for land formation, shapes and patterns to bring into her abstract art. She hopes that this experience will help inform her work, “you can only pick up so much from a book”.
Cherry had told her husband that she would be happy if she found some charcoal – and she did! It may have been tiny, but it made her day!
Whilst Cherry has watched every episode of Time Team from the start, this (like many volunteers) is her first dig, and she has already had several entries added to her skills passport!
